Earth Hour and Unexplained Marks
Monday, March 30th, 2009So, I missed Earth Hour Saturday. I know I’m a bad person. I had intended to take part in it, but I completely forgot. Honestly. The worst part was, I was on the computer during that time, working on homework and making a new layout. Tsk tsk, shame on me
However, I did make up for it by having my own Earth Hour and shutting all electronics off between 8pm and 9pm on Sunday.
Today we got our report cards back. My marks were good except for some reason, I got a 78 in science. And the thing is, on all my science assignments, I got really good marks. And I’m not even like guessing what my marks were, like I still had my tests and everything so I had proof. Will someone please explain to me how a 4, 4, 4+ and a 3 results in a 78? (4 = A, 4+ = A+, 3 = B). Being the stubborn and frustrating person I am, I went up to my science teacher and asked her to explain my mark (more politely of course) and she looked at the marks she wrote down in my book, muttered to herself for a bit, gave the marking book a disapproving look, looked at me confusingly and the answer she gave me was, “The 3 that you got was worth more than your other marks so it brought your marks down to about a 4-”. I then answered her with, “But that would still make my mark at least an 80 or 82″. She then looked at me, looked back down at her little marking book as she tried to find a good way to explain why she had given me a 78 (which is about a 3+). She then stated that my marks actually equaled between a 3+ and 4- so she decided to give me a 3+. I waited for her to say, “Just kidding,” or “Sorry about the mix up we’ll have to do something about that,” but all I ever got was a blank stare and a “Sorry” that didn’t sound like one. What else could I say? “No, you’re giving me the damn mark I deserve”? Yeah, definitely not.
That wasn’t the only mark that didn’t make sense, but I won’t even get into those. I guess this is what happens when you miss Earth Hour (But hey! I made up for it!)
